Open Loop VS Closed Loop

86 IROC 305 TPI
My Understanding is that my car starts in Open loop mode and that engine warmup AND OR a pre-programmed time out will send the system into Closed Loop Mode.

Question: Do our (mine) Cars use both Temp and timeout or just the Temp sensor? If we use both Then what is the amount of pre-programed time before going into closed loop?
I dont have a problem with the car, I am just being inquisitive.
Thanks
Ray

It should be 2 minutes or 600*F at the exhaust manifold.
