AKFN? memcal help pease!
I pulled my memcal to replace the chip that was burned for me, and it doesn't look like one I've seen before. The prom is labelled 'AKFN'. The memcal is 2 chips (1- 14 pin & 1-16 pin), and the prom all on one giant chip socket. It looks like I can just remove the prom and insert the new one. I don't want to screw up something though. Does this look right?

Upon further inspection it appears it won't be that easy. Seems that the chip is soldered to the holder somehow, but I can't get at the connections at all. What to do?
You can get to the connections more easily if you remove the bikini.
Really tho, I usually end up clipping the legs of the eprom with some very small wire cutters or nail clippers, then carefully heat the socket and pull the remaining portion of the leg out with tweasers. You may want to get a copy of the existing binary from the memcal before you attempt this by using an memcal to burner adapter, and if you get a chance please email a copy of it to me at gmpcm@comcast.net as it is not in my download database yet.

Did you happen to get a copy of the binary?
This solder wick thing sounds like a nice deal, I am a novice with an iron (ie. dangerous). I may have to give this a try next time...
