Tuning DFI
Tuning DFI
i purchased a used DFI 6.0. I got my car to run off of it, but it runs very rough. I was reading the manual that comes with it, but it doesn't seem to explain how to tune it. I know that most of the tuning has to be done in Base Fuel Map, but i don't really understand how to, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Get the 6.32 version CALMAP. You just enter all the spec of your engine and it will create a BASE MAP for you and you can start tuning fom there. It would be much easier than creating you own BASE MAP. I would also recommend to have someone with you in the car while tuning the DFI. A knowlegable tuner would definitely a plus.
I'm in the same boat as you. Car runs, but rough as a cob. So far I've not been able to find a decent baseline tune. My best move so far was to find the EMIC manual. The manual that MrGasket sends with the system is worthless.
If you need the emic let me know.

yes, Matt, the EMIC manual would be a big help. Is there somewhere online that I can download it. I ordered a book last night called " Tuning Accel\DFI" does anyone have this book? thanks for the help,

Don't have that book but I'm considering it. My setup is just way out in left field... beyond the worst case scenario in the emic.
Which I sent to you by the way
And I'm ashamed to admit, but I figured out what a large part of my tuning problem is, and it wasn't a tuning issue at all. Seems the blockhead that assembled my heads either used 10* retainers with 7*keepers or vice versa. My rockers were sitting on the retainers of the intakes because they have .100 long valves. Then the blockhead that assembled the engine didn't notice the problem! I bought a pushrod length tool today, as well as a "heads on" valve spring remover. Of course the damn thing doesn't clear my stealth ram, so it has to come off
. I have a feeling that after I fix these problems things will get better very quickly.
Sincerely,
Blockhead.

It's my favorite astronaut MATT!!! Yo, i might wanna use that EMIC book also when i finally get an Accel Gen 7+ set-up. to go with my 383 Stealthram combo. So who is the blockhead?? So even if you just take the top half off the SR it won't clear? You gotta remove the whole manifold? Oh well. Matt, do you know if Accel sells the entire harness to go with their DFI computer.

Yeah, I'll email that manual. It's some great reading. I don't have the one for GenVII though. What's the deal with the guy on ebay selling the fast setup for $1,600? Sounds like a pretty good deal, and from what I understand most people like it over the DFI VII.
Yeah, that's accels answer to any problem: "buy something from us". Look through the tech q/a on the mrgasket site.
No really they do sell them. If you were to get hold of the pinouts it's really not too difficult to make a harness either. I could definately build one for a DFI6. I had to make several of those accessory harnesses, since I'm a cheapass. You are right, if I take off the bread box it should clear. Will still be close.
Reread my post and I believe you'll see who the blockhead is
