WinALDL questions

For a while everything was perfect with WinALDL, now it's 99% working...

What is the meaning of the little box at the top of the display that normally says "20"? Because mine doesn't always say 20 anymore. It does most of the time, but not always.

And a related thing maybe, what causes there to be the occasional blank column of data (like in the raw data display)? I thought I read that this might be a grounding issue or something, but I can't remember where I read it.

Sounds like bits are being lost due to a bad cable or something.

Maybe, but what does the "20" mean at the top?
