Does the ecm rely on tach reading at all?
Problem is, I am going to be putting in a 4thgen dash and I have an LS1 cluster. The LS1 tach is not going to read correctly when I put it in my car until I get a Dakota box which wont be for awhile.
So my questions are
1)Does the ecm rely on the tach for anything or the tach the ecm?
2) Will it hurt the LS1 tach if it is bouncing all around all the time until I get the Dakota box?

The ECM uses reference pulses directly from the distributor ignition module. This signal is passed on to the ECM via the 4-pin connector on the distributor.

allright cool. So that tach not working wont screw with the ecm. But what about the 4thgen tach itself? Will it get damaged at all driving it like that for awile?
