Guages not working with Speed Density chip, but do work when running off the laptop
Ok I swapped my new motor in and I'm using a 1990 pontiac speed density engine harness with the factory dash harness in my 92 Camaro, which was a 305 TBI from the factory.
Everything seems to be working fine except my guages aren't working, when the car is running off the chip. Then my buddy comes over with his auto prom and hooks up my car through his laptop. When we run the car off the program from the computer all of a sudden all my guages work, except the speedo. I did swap in a T-56 using the dakota box so I may still have to mess with that some more.
Ok so what gives? Why would the guages not work when running off the chip, but work when running the same program but off the laptop?

Hello David,
I can't say for sure that this is the reason for your problem, however the troubleshooting hint chart in the service manual suggests checking the Guage fuse and the pink/black wire that goes from it to the instrument panel for an open wire. That might also take care of the speedo problem as well.
Just a thought!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I will defenitly check that out. I do wonder though, why the guages would work when its running off the laptop program and not the chip. They are the same exact program, and it seems very odd to me that with the laptop they work and with the chip it doesn't.
Oh yeah and when its running off the laptop, we decided to data log and I am getting a speedo reading just not at the guage itself. The reading is off but I'm sure the box needs to be calibrated.
