I Think my ECm may be fried, was looking for your opinion.
Was working fine with stock chip. Soldered in the base for the Moates adapter, without installing the top part ( part that converts it from 24 pin to 28 pin) and worked fine. Installed the top conversion, the zif socket and chip last night and ran odd. The ses light flickered dimly the whole time. Felt the chip to see if it was in all the way, and it was very hot. Took off adapter and the zif socket was on backwards.
Put it all back on the right way and idles at 2200 rpm.
If i disconect the chip, it runs the same??

I've done the same thing about 4 times before. I've only fried 1 chip and even that "repaired" itself in a couple months of freezing weather. Don't ask, I don't know how it works but it does. Infact it programs faster than my other flash proms, lol.
Try another 29c256 and make certain that you have it in correctly. If the ses flashs like crazy then don't run the car and remove the chip after you key off.
I've also kicked the eprom out, half out, you name it and I've done it. Nothing has effected the ecm. Never fried it, only bent a pin that needed re-tweaking .
Hope that helps. If not, get another 8746, it's always good to have a backup just incase you do something stupid that DOES fry the computer and you're out in the middle of no-where. Personally I'm either in Columbus Ohio or NJ so I'm never more than 5 minutes from a parts story with the ecm in stock. I also know how to run my car on a 7747 just in case.
So don't feel bad, just try another chip, that one's probably toast.
