New To Data Logging

Hey guys I just got a laptop and I want to learn how to burn chips but thats not why I am here. Want I am here for is that I want to know what programs are suggested by you guys to data log our cars. Also how do I connect my laptop to my ECM? Like what kind of cable is it? Should I make my own or just buy one? Thanks for your time, Ron.

For your TBI the best bet for data logging is WinALDL. This site also has some cable diagrams. Only require a one-transistor setup:
