limp home mode, issues

If the signal from the O2 sensor was constantly
indicating 'rich', would the ecm change to limp home, and what would happe?
I am especially interested in if the distributor
timing is affected.

No to limp mode. Most likely it would drop out of closed loop (go open loop) and set the SES light and two malfunction codes (13 and 45).
