just wondering if anyone has gone from a 305 to a bigger engine and kept the computer controlled distributor and carb. have heard i cant get a new ecm for my car since it is one prong but was wondering if anyone has found a way around that without going to mechanical

Might take a look at the GM ZZ4 HO conversion kit, that was available until a couple of years ago. GM shipped the 1228079 ECM, along with a special PROM, for use with the 350 ZZ4 engine and computer-controlled carb and distributor. I ran that setup for four or five years before switching to EFI, and was pretty happy with it. I see no reason why it couldn't be adapted to a 383 just as well as a 350.

There's been a few discussion theads here in the past that cover the details of the conversion kit. If you can't find them via a search, let me know and I'll dig them up.
