Difference between code 51 and flashing ses

What are the differences between code 51 and flashing ses? How easy is it to fry an ecm and how have you done it? The chip is in wrong when it gets hot, right?

Any trouble code can set a flashing SES.
A code 51 is just one reason for it to flash.

It takes a direct short, serious overload, or really high batter voltage.

Warm?, or hot?. Hot yes, something's wrong.

Any good way to see if an ecm alone is broke? Direct short or serious overload I guess are possibilities. The chip was definately hot.
