Obd 1 Programmer

87 IROC, IS THERE A PROGRAMMER MADE FOR THE OBD 1? I DONT REALLY WANT TO CHANGE THE CHIP OUT, I HAVE HEARD THE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THESE MASS-PRODUCED CHIPS, AND I AM NOT SMART ENOUGH TO BURN MY OWN! SO A PROGRAMMER IS MY BEST BET.

You're thinking of something like a Hypertech Power Programmer?

If so, then the answer is no. It's simply not possible with the kind of chips GM used back when they built your ECM.

Burning chips may seem a little intimidating at first, but IMHO there's no reason that anyone of normal intelligence can't learn it. The tools that are available now make it relatively easy.

I had the same problem

I also have an 1987 IROC that used to have a 305 Auto TPI and was very imtimidated with programming chips. I tried everything from a Hypertech Stage 2 Thermo-master which I still have and don't use. Now I have a good Friend who is more than helpful and is teaching me the right way to burn and reprogram the chips. Once you get the knack of it.. It isn't that hard. There are variables that you can modify to get your car to work better, and there are few that you shouldn't ever touch.. But, there isn't any programmer out on the market for any ODB-1 system yet.
