MAF to SD Quandry, I need advice form the guys that know
Ok guys here is the deal, all current info on my car is in the sig. I just purchased a legit Lingenfelter 383 w/SuperRam, injectors, chip and all. The engine was in a 91 Corvette. Here is my dilemma. I really want to use Lingenfelter's chip to control this engine but this requires that I switch to SD. I do not want to switch to SD because I may change exhaust in the future and I dont want this to throw off my tune. I dont want to hack the wiring harness in my car, I dont want to have to mess with a VSS, I don't even know if a Vette chip will work in a regular 730 ECM and I will still have to have someone modify the chip to disable the VATS. The drawback to staying MAF is that I do not get to use Lingenfelter's tune, and I will have to likely pay big bucks to have someone tune the car (Livernois Motorsports won't return my e-mails??).
I am afraid of the complexity of trying to get my car swapped to SD, and I didnt want to fork over tons of cash to custom tune the car. Lingenfelter will not sell me a MAF chip for my application(although I may call again and pry on someone else) and I have had no luck begging the Corvette guys for an LPE MAF chip. What do you guys suggest?

You don't have to hack the harness. Just repin it. Move some wires around from here to there and add a connector. Have a look through the maf to sd threads and ask questions. It only seems hard. It is time consuming. The more time you spend doing it right the first time, the less you'll spend cussing when it doesn't work. Which means you didn't spend enough time figuring it all out.
And you can swap back to the 165 easy enough.
AFA the exhaust goes, what makes you think your exh matches the one in a vette now??? Or later when you change it.
I'll do your VATS disable for shipping cost.
It would be interesting to see how much tweaking LE did.

I am getting ready change to SD also. I just got a '730 and MAP sensor Monday. I've got the pinouts for both ecms and am just waiting 'til I get a few days off to begin. Good luck with the swap, I'll be following your progress with interest.

I was only concerned about SD being too sensitive to modifications when I change the exhaust, I didnt even think that I already have a different exhaust then the 'vette, DUH. I have rummaged through some of the MAF to SD threads and will do some more reading. The VATS is easy to disable for someone that has the software, I appreciate you offering to help, I will certainly remember that, I am sure there are lots of people that would like to take a gander at that .bin. I am still unclear about what will be required for a VSS and wether or not a 'vette chip will work in the normal 730 ECM, I assume it will? Thanks for the help guys.

Just did the swap last week. 2 hour job basically to get it going. Spent another few hours removing relays and making everything look factory. Its night and day differance with the SD (Not really with power, but drivability)

LPE's chip isn't going to be light years ahead of anybody else's, so you would be disappointed there.
I used to have a 383 superramed car with maf, I can send you my bin if you want it.

89gta383, I would love your .bin if you are willing to send it over. I would really appreciate that. mean305@hotmail.com.
I am also very interested in what your combination was, who wrote the .bin, and how your car ran, I'm even curious about the mpg you got with it. Heck I dont even know how my car will act with this engine in it, I am excited just to hear how these engines have run in other people's cars. It is a reasonably common combination, I am sure there are chips out there that will work good for my engine. Thanks a ton for the help guys, I just have no experience doing this chip burning thing. I guess if I had at least seen it done or something I wouldn't be so scared to try it.
