1985 TA ECM QUESTIONS........
I JUST GOT AN 85 TA 305 TPI. MY QUESTION IS :
1S THE ECM PLUG UNDER THE ISNTRUMENT PANEL IN THAT LITTLE ACCESS PANEL? IF SO, WHICH PINS DO I JUMP ON THE PLUG TO SCAN FOR CODES ?
SHE STARTS REALLY ROUGH,BUT ONCE WARMED UP RUNS FINE. THE IDOL IS ROUGH SOMETIMES THOUGH, JUMPS BETWEEN 500 AND 1000 RMPS .
THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON OCCASIONALLY,BUT GOES OUT AS SOON AS I GIVE IT GAS.IT ALSO COMES ON SOMETIMES WHEN TEMP IS ABOUT 220 IN PARK. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS !!!

well first of all, there is this neat key on your keyboard called "Caps Lock". Try it. you'll feel instantly better
as for the ECM, the ECM is located under the right side of the dashboard panel. You're probably referring to the ALDL, which is the interface to plug something in to, which is located under the IP. short-circuit pins A and B, that's the upper right pin, and the pin just left of the upper right pin.
Then insert key in ignition, put it in 'run' position but DO NOT CRANK.
Then wait. It'll start with code 12 (engine not running) and do all codes 3 times so you can accurately write them down. I'll look them up for ya I've got a service manual here.
I drive a 85 305 TPI T/A as well. Regards eric
