Accel DFI gen6, anyone using windows XP?
Accel DFI gen6, anyone using windows XP?
I've been using calmap 6.32 on my older laptop and its been acting up lately, the laptop, not the software. I have a another laptop that has windows XP on it, i have calmap loaded in it and it works fine offline but when i try to access the ecm with this laptop, it seems to connect but runs very slow and finally errors out. The laptop with XP does have a serial port, its not using a jumper or anything like that. Are any of you guys running calmap 6.32 with windows XP? or is this software not compatable with it and windows ME or 98 needed?
Thanks
Tony

The odds are not good with Win XP.
You really need to be able to reboot the PC into a DOS mode like back in Windoze 95/98. It may be possible. I think I've heard of one or 2 people who got it to work. However, I've heard of many more that have not been successful, and have found that it's easier to buy an used laptop with an older operating system that is more compatible.

Try setting the compatibility mode to Win 95 for calmap. Usually you can get it to work this way.

Hooked up a dfi gen 6 on my old tta, it started and ran, but i never got a chance to play with it.
Anyways when I tried to use my xp laptop it wouldn't work. My buddy said to use windows 98 and you woint have a problem. Something to do with port speed and getting it to sync with xp.

According to Accel tech help, you must use a WIN95/98 operating system with CALMAP software, and exit to DOS to successfully communicate with the gen 6 ECM. I've been down that road, and have an old win95 486 laptop that I used when I was still running the GEN6.
You can purchase a used laptop computer and have it set up as a dual-boot computer, with WinXP for your daily use, and a win98 partition for when you need to do some tuning of the ECM. This is what we do at work when we have to interface with old hardware that still requires DOS for communications.
