I need some help I have a 1992RS with a 305TBI with aT5 and trying to swap engines with a 1989 IROCZ with a 350 TPI with an automatic. I want to have a350TPI with a 5speed. I pulled both engines and engine harnesses along with ECMs.But both cars have the VATS systems on them. I got the engine and harness back in the IROC but cannot get It to even tunover traced wires in and out of column.Does the ANTITHEFT SYSTEM value stay with the ECM.

No, the key interfaces with the VATs module. The signal from the VATs module to both ECMs is the same. It will cause the ECM to not fire the injectors.

Thanks for the info, here is what I did I did vats system check on both cars, they both have a 1867resistance on the key chip I checked through the 2 wires from the column without key no resistance measured with the key that 1867resistance was there at ignon or off so that tested good I tried to follow wht/blk and purp/wht wires though harness to vats.It says its on left side under kick panel but these wires go towards ecm.If you have info on vats location along with sart relay that would be awesome. Thanks jason.Originally Posted by jayk2k3

Thanks for the info checked resistance on key switch on both cars they both are 1867ohms I traced It to purp/wht and wht/blk wires but was unable to locate vats module Iappreciate your input and would like more This rs IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE WITH A 350tpi maF WITH EDELBROCK HEADERS 5SPD AND 3.73 GEARS IT IS WHAT IVE WANTED TO BUILD SO HELP WOULD BE VERY VERY GOOD..THANKS JB...

on a firebird the vats decoder box is kind tucked in where the passenger hush panel is .... however on a camaro it is bolted to the backside of the dash to the left of where the radio is, very hard to get to dash removal must be done to get at it.
JPROZ1167 FROM THAT BOX DOES IT SEND A START SIGNAL TO S TERMINAL ONSTARTER?

I believe it sends the signal to the starter enable relay located behind your drivers side kickpanel on the floor

But yet another question ... why dont you just put the original harness back in from the TBI and re-pin to run your TPI system?
No the security light does not turn on at all. To the next question how could I pin my old harness and run my ecm out of my tbi.My tbi system has 2 Injectors mounted on the throttle body and the tpi system has an injector per cylinder.

use your TBI harness ... run a 730 speed density ecm ... buy the 730 ecm plugs and repin ... extend your TPS & IAC connectors .... add tpi injector plug harness section to your injector wires .... simple as that and you have a speed density tpi harness with no hacking another harness into your car from another year. Your TBI has every possible thing in its harness to run TPI

theres a write up in the technical sections on the homepage that tells you all this. 8746 is a TBI ECM .... but what the heck is a 8259 never seen that in a TPI car always thought tpi had either a 7165 or 7730 unless its a 85 ecm maybe if it is what a pain to get it to work ..... RE-pin your tbi harness guy and avoid all these hassles. try a search repinning 7165 ... TBI harness to TPI ... searches like that
