Car: 87 mustang gt 89 camaro
Engine: 302 355 tpi
Transmission: manual
Axle/Gears: 3.55 and 3.42 posi
89 to 91

i am swapping an 89 tpi for a 91 tpi...(both 305)the 89 is a manual tranny. and the 91 was with an auto tranny...which ecm should i use...i know that the 91 is a map and the 89 is a maf...thats the only difference right?

the ecms will not interchange with out rewiring the car. the tpi itself should be the same. If all your doing is swaping the engine there is no need to chance computers.

oh ok good i have both the wiring harnesses so all i have to do is swap them?i thought it mattered if it were an auto to a manual.

It does matter if its an auto or manuel. Each chip i tuned for the application. If it was me I would leave the ecm in the car it came in. If you are changing from an auto to a stick when you change engines then you may want to change ecm's then.

Tunercat says 1989 uses a 7165. 91 uses 7730 or 7727. I would think you need a 1991 ECM as well as a .bin or eprom from that 1991 year that is specific for your transmission.
