Is this an ECM problem or what?
I posed my questions a few weeks ago in the V6 forum trying to figure out my problems. The guys over there gave me some great suggestions but none of them panned out.
So now I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, my problem might be with the ECM itself.
The car is an '88 w/ 2.8MPFI
I bought the car a few weeks ago knowing it needed 'a little work'. My primary complaint is with the SES. I've been throwing a code 15 & 21 since I bought it. 15 was for the CTS. It has since been replaced. 21 was the TPS. Also replaced. Both by me.
Here's where the problem starts. Nothing has changed. I reset the ECM by unhooking the battery for 20 minutes or so. Hook it back up and turn the key to run. (not start)
The SES light comes on, flashes once, and then comes on solid. Shut off the key and jump the ALDL to pull codes. Same codes, 15 & 21. I can't even start the car without getting a code.
I've pulled the ECM out, taken off the cover and visually inspected the ECM. I don't see anything burnt, nor do I smell anything burnt. (with my DSMs I could always smell whether the ECU was fried or not. Hoping the GM ECM was the same way.)
So I'm wondering if the reason for throwing codes so quick might actually be a faulty circuit in the ECM. It was mentioned in my other thread that the ECM would normally allow some time for the CTS to warm up before throwing the code. It isn't.
SO, what's the general consensus here? Is it an ECM problem or did I just happen to replace a bad CTS with a new, bad CTS and a bad TPS with a new, bad TPS?
