totaly lost on this one
in fact im not ever sure if this is the right board or not but I hope some one can help. My TA is down and needs some major work so im tring to get my 1990 suburban running so i can work on the TA It has a 454 tbi it set in GA for 2 years and was started once a month or so it made the trip to indiana but on the way it started to run rough at low rpms and at stop signs it would lose vacuum for a few seconds (and breaks) then it would recover. It would push the pcv valve out also and would backfire in the tbi it looked like it was getting way to much fuel and when hot it looked like the regulator was leaking to i rebuilt it also messed witht the timing some after rebuilding the pressure regulator it wont start at all now. so i got a cap and rotor for it and the shaft the rotor slides on was a rusty mess so i cleaned it and no change so can any one let me know what i should look at next ran out of ideas. btw when I crank it it trys to fire some but wont start and smells like their is still a lot of gas. HELP please

Re: totaly lost on this one
I'd like to say I had a very similar instance with my 88 Silverado. Although my 88 had a 350 TBI I'm thinking the distributor and ignition system were the same as the 454. At one point my truck ran rough at idle, lost a lot of power and eventually would not even start. Checked all the obvious things but come to find out it was the ignition module. I swapped that out and the truck started and ran fine. If I remember correctly the ignition module was fairly cheap to replace. Not sure if this is your problem but its pretty easy to check out. Good luck with both your Suburban and TA!

First of all thanks so much for the reply also I thought that if you had any spark that the ignition module was ok and from what your saying thats not the case so maybe that is it then. I think i might also replace the coil they are really cheap and it might be a good thing to do just as part of a tune up. Thanks again and i will let you know if that does it.

MAF/MAP Setup? that could be an issue, relays?, check vacuum presure, check for cracks in tubing, check to make SURE you have the spark plug wires in the correct firing order, make sure it is timed correctly, check fuel presure with presure gauge, it sat for 2 years? where? outside? inside?
