ECM swap question

ECM swap question

I have a 92 rs with the 305 and i am swapping computers to get rid of the vats system and i would like to know if the ecms 1227747 and 16136965 (both caprice ecm) are compatabale or if the 1227747 was the best choice?

getting rid of vats is easy as burning a new chip not changing the ecm..

The 1227747 never came in a Caprice, it is a truck ECM. You may be thinking of the 1228746 ECM, which is the stock ECM for your RS. What you can do is to obtain a Caprice chip and try it. This is the calibration data. It will eliminate VATs as the Caprice didn't have it.

It should run OK. However, the calibration will be different as the Caprice is a heavier vehicle. Won't hurt to try it. Just be sure that the chip is for the '8746 ECM, a '6965 chip won't work in the '8746 ECM.
