730 to 749 no communication with scanner

I recently did the 730 to 749 swap using the 730 ecm and repinning the wire harness according to the thread. I downloaded the BBZB 1580 58 and burned it to my chip. I also changed the cylinder setting to 8. My 92 camaro 350 TPI runs ok, but the idle is about 1300 and the cooling fan stays running the second I start it. I am using a snap on mt2500 scanner and it doesn't communicate. I tried entering a typhoon and syclone vehicle, but no luck. Would I have to use a laptop based scanner? And if i do, what program, cable would I need? I am just trying to get data to tune it.

Thank you.

Sounds like the ECM is in limp mode. What does the SES light do at key-on, engine-off?

Did you offset burn or stack the $58 BIN? Note that it is half the size of the $8D BIN.

Re: 730 to 749 no communication with scanner

Thanks for the advice. With the key on engine off, the SES light stays on. This is the first time that I had tried to burn a 16K file. I have a pocket programmer 2. What I did was start the device start at 4000 and I'm using a at29c256 chip, amtel. The device end was 07FFF. There are some fuctions that I am not familiar with, like Buffer Start,Device start and Device End. I can't say if I offset burned or stack the BIN. Would appreciate it if someone gave me some info in burning a 16K BIN in a AT29C256.

Thanks

It sounds like it is close. Try setting both the buffer start & end along with the device start & end as follows:

Buffer start: 0x0000
Buffer end: 0x3FFF

Device start: 0x4000
Device end: 0x7FFF

The Device is the chip, which may also be a term the PP2 uses. Doing the above is an offset burn. Should work. If it doesn't can double stack the BIN and burn it as a normal '256 kb BIN/device.

If you use TunerPro can stack it with it. If you are familiar with a DOS command window can use this:

copy /b xyz1.bin + xyz1.bin double.bin

The xyz1.bin being the BIN you want to use. The doube.bin being the doubled up BIN that then gets burned to the PROM.

SES light: the solid SES confirms the ECM is in limp mode. When the PROM is working correctly, at key-on, engine-off, the SES will turn on, blink off, then turn on solid. The blink is the important part. That confirms that the ECM is running from the PROM.

Can burn a $8D BIN into the chip and try it for the SES blink. This would also verify (or help to) that the chip is good along with being inserted correctly into the adapter (and the adapter is good).

Re: 730 to 749 no communication with scanner

Thanks for your help. I did what you had instructed and it worked. Started the Device start at 4000 and Device end at 7FFF. The SES light comes on, blinks, and stays on. Now I just need to use a scanner and see if it communicates.

Thanks again, RBob.
