Is it possible to damage ecm during datalog?
Just curious, I was trying to datalog with my laptop, usb/adl cable and tuner pro and my car was running "ok" at the time.
When it died during the datalog, it won't start up now
It'll turn over but never actually fire up.
I've went through and checked every possible cause of not firing up at least twice (timing, fuel pressure, plugs, wires,) Everything looks ok.
Before someone says check the timing, I know 100% I'm at TDC, my plugs are new, wires are in the correct firing order....so it should fire up technically. I used a spark plug firing checker and I'm getting spark.
I just didn't want to rule datalog out as a possibility since it was running prior to dataloging. Can this process damage the ecm or has anyone ever heard of this happening.
Thanks!

When you turn the key on, does the SES light blink once, and then stay on? If it doesnt blink then either the ECM or the chip is bad. Yes it is possible to damage something while you're working with it. Usually it happens while you're inserting or removing a chip while the key is turned on. But just datalogging from the ALDL port and not touching the ECM? Probably not.
You say you're getting spark but it could still be the distributor module. Have you checked for fuel pressure? Or touched the injectors while a friend tries to start the car, to check if they're firing? If the distributor module dies it will not send the signal to the computer to fire the injectors, but it could still work enough to fire the spark plugs.

Thanks for the reply, my SES just comes on, it doesn't blink first and then stay on.
I've got good fuel pressure, and I'm sure the injectors are working. I had them rebuilt and the spark plugs had a little gas on them when I pulled them earlier. Obviously the gas wouldn't be burned off them because the car never fired up.
The distributor (and module) is brand new, I hope it isn't that. I have a spare distributor laying around, I may swap out for that and see what happens.

Is this for the speed density setup?
A buddy of mine met up with me today to make my 350 run better on my 305 memcal and the first 2 tries, car would crank and not fire.
Then he remembered that I have no VATS!
Fixed that and all is well! My car now runs great!
Don't know if that helps but, thought I'd throw that info at ya anyway.
