ECM problem?

ok so ive been doing some reading around.I thought perhaps the 2.93 gears were the culprit but reading these forums that may not be the case. This car has no punch whatsoever. I literaly have to put my foot all the way to the floor when coming off a stop light to get it moving and if Im on a step hill have to keep it to the floor just to maintain 60 MPH. I have jad a tuneup done, changing all spark plugs and wires. I have had a new catalytic converter put on and intake manifold gaskets replaced ruling out any exhaust problems.

I had the tranny replaced its a 4l60E and the mechanic says its a possible ECM related issue. Does this mean that I need to replace it? I just find it really hard to believe that that little box can be causing so much. It shifts fine and im really at a loss and am really tired of throwing money away on this thing.

btw this is a 92 chevy caprice

Re: ECM problem?

Confirm your timing is set correctly with the "Bypass" unplugged.
Sounds like its way off and is probably overheating (or getting hotter than it should)

Re: ECM problem?

I thought it was a timing issue as well which is why I had the tuneup and got that adjusted. But that didnt help. Outside of what I posted the car runs fine, doesnt seem to burn gas unnecessarily and only idles high when its cold. Some other symptoms I forgot to mention. The speedometer stopped working, then probably a week later the odometer stopped working. When I start the car I can see the needle on the speedometer jump like it just got power, but the thing does not move at all when driving. Not sure if the two are related but that is something else going on.

Re: ECM problem?

Check fuel pressure (or change the fuel filter) if you have any back fires when accellerating hard.
Do you have any way to datalog the car?
That would shed some light on how its running.

Re: ECM problem?

I dont Jp. I dont have any backfires but sometimes it stumbles. Very random it seems when it does it. Havent done it for about 2 weeks but then did this morning. What I mean by that is. From a stop and seems to want to cut out, but never does. I take my foot off the pedal and back on to get it out of the stumble. Its the same feeling as if you had just ran out of gas. I do have a fuel filter in my garage that I have sitting for it because I thought that might have been the case for the stumbling, but since it hadnt been doing it, it sits. I'll put that on tomorrow and report back here.

On the dataloging thing again. Can I take the car to like autozone and have them do it or rent one?
