no code 12=bad ECM?

I'm not getting a code 12 with the engine off and the key on(no SES at all), does this mean my ECM is bad? what else could it be?

Re: no code 12=bad ECM?

How does the engine run? Decent, or really bad? If it runs decent then it just may be that the SES bulb is out. Or that the wire from the ECM to the SES is open.

it runs, but really bad, the bulb may be out, but it's not showing any codes on my laptop either, not even a 12.

Are you getting any ALDL data at all? If not it may be that the ECM is dead and is running in limp mode. This is on a back up fuel device.

It will run but not very well in limp mode.

I'm pretty sure I was getting data, I woudl have to break the laptop back out to make sure though.

Re: no code 12=bad ECM?

I still haven't had a chance to check if it's transmitting data, but I do have a new development, it runs best between 2000-3000 rpms, it'll usually die if I rev it in neutral without feathering the gas back down, and sometimes when the engine is under high load, it will stumble and backfire insanely bad,

That could be limp home... test the SES bulb or run a test light from the wire on ECM to SES light...

Re: no code 12=bad ECM?

Won't get ALDL data in limp mode. Actually sounds like the fuel pressure is dropping off.

I just replaced to fuel pump, so that would mean I would have to have a bad regulator. also, sometimes it'll run well all the way to 5500 rpms.

That wouldn't explain no code 12 though, any other ideas?

Yes. Have you checked the bulb? Does it work ever?

Just because you replaced a fuel pump does not means it's working corectly. If you think there is a fuel presure problem you use a fuel presure gauge to check. Not replace a part...

I checked it through the diagnostic port, no codes at all with the engine off.

My car got ransacked the same day it quit running right, I dropped my tank thinking someone put something in it, and since I had it out I decided I better do it now instead of later.

New development, I stopped by the gas station and put gas in it, and now I have code 12 again! I can already tell this won't be easy!
