Distributor retrofit

Hello,

I have a brand new billet vac advance dizzy (large cap) I'm using for an EFI conversion. I'm going to swap the module with a computer controlled module.

I can put the module in the dizzy, or mount it on the firewall.

Is there any reason to use a 7 pin over an 8 pin or the other way around?

Re: Distributor retrofit

Firewall is the best place to put the module, preferrably up near the cowl if you have cowl induction so the fins of the heatsink are in the airstream for cooling, which brings up the next point: make sure to use a heatsink. You might even be able to retrofit a module heatsink from a 96-01 5.7L vortec with a remote module/coil. As for the pickup, use twisted pair to minimize electrical interference. Keep in mind that the shorter these are, the better, so try not to put the module too far away. Lastly, you will also need to ground the terminals that the screws pass thru. The module does not have a dedicated ground, but grounds thru the mounting screws. Alternatively, you can just ground the heatsink its mounted to.

If you put it in the dist., it will be subject to much higher temps, and more likely to burn out.
