Ok so somebody can help you..

What cable? ALDL.com?
&
Please verify ECM, BCC & ADS or ADX #'s used.

Momentary resistor short may be necessary.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

ECU # would be on label on same. Like 1228746. Or can be referenced by year make model. 1991 camaro tpi is 1227727 or 1227730. BC is also on label or on prom under access panel like AYKC. ADS/ADS is the mask or definition file or program byte like $61 for above ECU 8746. both 7727 and 7730 use $8D.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

ADS (TPv4) & ADX (TPv5) files configure data for transmission/reception thru the ALDL.

Seems I often find them bundled in the ECU or BIN (XDF?) files.
I hope another member will verify this as engines, not code, is my forte.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

ADS XDF are like a road map so as to find the address/location of the data. That is all I know.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

Ok so your response helps us to know where your at.

The proper .bin and .xdf files must be first loaded into TP to use the program, that is I still haven't tried connecting without, maybe others have.

.bin files store the "tune" parameters (settings),
.xdf files are, as Ronny said, a directory to those settings.

The best advice I can give a new guy is Read Stickies!

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

No,
WinALDL is limited to the pre-loaded ECM's in 'configuration'. I don't see the 7730 or 7727 there. That program is for monitoring & datalogging only.

I'm sure you need to load TP RT with .bin & .xdf to connect, like I said I've never tried it without, I don't see how that would work. Like winaldl connecting allows you to monitor & datalog. TP is also a slick editing program.

Find your .bin & .xdf files here http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ecm_info/1227730/
&
ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/
That is what's on a stock chip.

You can read what is on your existing prom with some Moates gear, a Burn2 & HDR1 would do the trick. Read this to start, http://support.moates.net/2009/05/07...guide-read-me/

Don't get mad that won't help anything...lot's of reading stickies will.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

its no longer a stock chip i had it burned by a guy on here i know and i know its a moates chip with the adapter and all that jazz just not sure if i need the .bin and .xdf files he used to load on the chip to read it... what i really want is to just be able to connect to the damn thing and monitor the sensors and see whats going on with the motor...

so in order to emulate or "monitor" my ecm currently i will need the .xdf and .bin files or can i connect to it and pull them from the ecm?

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

You will need more gear to "read" a chip.

Try to get your .bin & .xdf from the author.
If not,
I would try loading the stock files, if the changes were minimal you should be able to establish data flow.

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

If i purchase the extra hardware will that allow me to attain the files i need? Further i'm afraid to load the stock files because since i'm new to this i would not be sure what i would need to change to make the computer realize the upgraded components on my motor like mild cam and better injectors...

Re: aldl to usb cable probs

You might want to read the stickies or join www.gearhead-efi.com, If your using a 730 start with a $8d definition, Aujp.bin data log and adjust your ve.

Seems to me that there is more 3rd gen/$8d/AUJP information here then anywhere else on the 'net.

Don't see why anyone needs to go elsewhere...

RBob.

You have a cable and TunerPro RT so just forget WinALDL. Get the ADX file for your car based on ECM and BCC/Chip four letter code like $8d.adx. Load that into tunerPro and you can read and record data. You won't be changing anything in your car. There's some TunerPro tutorials here to help you get going:
http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...ro-Tuning-Talk

There's tons of info here at Thirdgen forums DIY Prom, DFI and ECM and TPI just read the stickies and get an idea what's going on, be prepared to spend some time to read and learn. Lots of the info is advanced and will make sense as you move along.

I agree! GearHead-EFI is just a supplement for all EFI info, conversions, files, and referrals, none specific to any car. If you showed up there we would help by refering you to Thirdgen.

You are already in the right place for your car here!
