Error codes help!

Hey guys, need a lil help. I had a couple error codes pop up on me today and cant figure out what the problem is. I have a 1987 Iroc/Z28 5.7L TPI

32. Fault in barometric pressure sensor circuit OR Fault in exhaust gas recirculation valve diagnostic switch OR Fault in electronic vacuum regulator valve

43. Low voltage at electronic spark timing circuit

Just need to no how to get all this fixed and taken care of. Thank you for any help.

Code 32 is for the EGR system. It uses a temperature switch to detect whether EGR gases are flowing. It could be that either the solenoid, EGR valve, or the temperature probe is bad. Or the passages are clogged with carbon.

Code 43 is for the knock system, Electronic Spark Control (ESC). The knock filter when not reporting knock pulls the signal to the ECM high (about 9 volts). And pulls it low when reporting knock.

The error code is due to the line being low all of the time. The ESC module may be bad, the power to the ESC module may not be there, or the wire between the module and ECM is open.

There is a scan of the '88 Firebird FSM on rapidshare. That is the best tool there is for troubleshooting the issues.

Note that the ESC low error (43) is going to cause a loss of power and fuel mileage.

RBob.

Re: Error codes help!

for your first code error i had the same problem when i took the cat off my car i started getting error codes for that and they went away after i tacked the air return hose from the cat onto the side of my exhaust, as for the second code i have not the slightest clue, my car had A BAD CODE FOR THE EGR VALVE and i just pulled it off and cleaned it out. afterwards my car had no error codes.

The EGR valve is going to look like a saucer kindof, on my 305 tbi model its on the passenger side of the intake right up against my injectors.

sorry if im not much help, im only 17 and still learning about these cars.

Re: Error codes help!

Not to jump in on your thread, but had my Cat changed out yesterday. Before he changed it i asked if he could run a test on it. Like 5 sensors looked bad. Temp Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor. He told me we will start there and then change out the others next. Ok If all these sensors are bed, wouldn't my car run like S**t?
My car runs great! Only reason I had him test was my engine light came on the last few days.
