Dataloggers!! I need help with WinALDL and homemade ALDL cable

Dataloggers!! I need help with WinALDL and homemade ALDL cable
I made a ALDL cable a while back. I know that I have to connect 3 wires into the ALDL port in order to recieve realtime data. But I forgot to connect the "R3" wire to the "B" terminal (2nd picture below) in the ALDL port and my laptop began to recieve data. Could I continue to recieve data without connecting to the "B" terminal, or should I connect "R3" as instructed by the 1st diagram?
