CEL When I floor it

1991 Camaro RS 305 TBI

In case it becomes relevant at all the tranny was swapped to a manual from a 1990 camaro by previous owner but everything else is pretty much stock

So my check engine light has been popping on if I really get on it and hit high RPMs, and then it goes off the next time a start the car up and stays off until i repeat the same condition. In addition to the CEL, it seems to run a little bit rougher (stumbles a bit) for the rest of that drive.

I'm still working on repeating it with different variables, but when I was driving home tonight, the car had been sitting a few hours so the engine was pretty much cool and I tried repeating it and wasn't able to get the light to pop up. I'll update when I figure out anything else but I figured I'd throw a post out in case anyone else has had and solved the same problem.

Re: CEL When I floor it

Forced knock test is failing... Blink out the malfunction codes, if code 43 is present then that is the issue.

Re: CEL When I floor it

jumper the two terminals in the top right of the ALDL connector, turn key to run(don't start engine) your SES light will blink off codes

it flashes each code three times, the first code should be 12

flash.....flash flash
flash.....flash flash
flash.....flash flash

then it will flash other codes, in example code 22(low tps voltage)

flash flash........flash flash
flash flash........flash flash
flash flash........flash flash

it will keep flashing new codes until it runs out of codes to give you, then it goes back to flashing code 12 over and over again

The only problem is that I won't get the light anymore after i turn the car off, it only pops on when i floor it so if i were to go home and shut it off and turn the key to run i wouldn't get the light anymore.

Codes get stored, as long as you don't disconnect the battery you should be able to flash any trouble codes the ECM has stored

Once you are done reading the codes you should disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to clear the codes
