Anybody had any trouble with the Accel billetech dist?

I was trying to start my '73 vette to attempt a tuning session yesterday on the DFI and that sucker just wouldn't even fire. I had no spark at the plugs. None at the coil. I checked 12v to the coil input- ok. Tried starting it again. No luck. I decided to remove the dist cap ( this is a brand new distributor BTW ), didn't see anything amiss. I reseated the connector to the module and tightened down the 2 screws that hold it down a bit, they weren't really loose though. Put the cap back on and it fired right up!

I cranked on this beast a LONG time before I messed with the cap so now I'm worried about what the fix actually was, I didn't really DO anything. I don't want to get 50 miles from home and have this thing decide it's not going to fire again. I may not be so lucky next time. As I said, I don't really know what I "fixed" to make it run. I reseated all the connectors going into the distributor and coil and main wiring harness with no luck prior to getting spark also.

I just wondered if anyone has heard of any chronic prob's with the Accel Billetech distributors or might know what my problem could be?

Thanks

David

I have the small cap Accel Billetech distributor, and haven't had a problem, nor have I heard of any.I know MSD's stuff is a lot more popular than the Accel and Mallory stuff nowadays, but as far as I'm concerned, they still make some very good products.I've been running Accel Distributors since high school (20 years ago)and haven't had any problems to speak of.This may not be helpful, but thought I'd give you my opinion.
