Ok, so ive done as much research that i can possibly do, and no single person can give me a straight answer. Ive even talked to ASE certified mechanics, the local gm dealership, and MANY other tech boards......please help me find the answer.
Here is the problem....

1998 Vortec 5.7 engine, twin turbocharged

EBL Flash ecm, running the engine

1994 4l60e transmission, 2wd obviously, from firebird

1969 cutlass the whole works is going to be transplanted into.

So here lies the problem.... i can work out getting all the ecm controls working the vortec engine....done this on a previous truck. The issue seems to be that nobody can give me a straight answer if the 1998 vortec pcm can control a 1994 4l60e transmission without major modification to the harness controlling the transmission, or the pcm just cant control an older 4l60e.

I know the transmissions are different between years, but will the vortec pcm understand how to control a 1994 4l60e....gm dealer seems to throw their shoulders up and refuse to give me an absolute answer, even if that answer is a flat out NO......they just say, "buy the right transmission", or "we can sell you the controller and transmission for around $4500".

Dealerships just dont understand the word "modified".....ugh.

If i need to rethink my strategy and change plans, no problems....i just cant get a definitive answer on this subject. Any help? Thanks guys....im lost as of right now.

Well some later model 4l60es have a different tailshaft sensor vs the earlier models for the speedo.But you can swap the tailshaft housing. Who the hell quoted you $4500? You want an aftermarket ecu with trans control get a holley dominator ecu. Bout $2500 with all the wiring and such. What exactly are you asking interms of will it work? They are mostly all the same inside. Most of the sbc not ls 4l60e trans have a removable 4 bolt tailshaft. They have a bolt on steel or aluminum dust shield for the convertor. The later model ls 4l60e have a bolt on bell housing. Most truck 4l60s are the same as the regular 2 wheel drive units. They just have a shorter output shaft for the transfer case and a different bolt on tail shaft. But they will be stamped with a k on the case. Supposed to be stronger but Idk about that.
