Replaced ecm and car won't start
Replaced ecm and car won't start
Hi everyone I have a 1988 iroc z and I did a ecm swap with a remanufactured one from the parts store and now my car won't crank at all. I tried the leave bat unhooked for 15 min and key in on pos for 10 min off for 30 and try to start nothing. Everything lit up and seem to be getting power but no crank. Tried the 11 min on 30 sec off 3 times and nothing either. I thought my 88 didn't have a vats but I tried anyways. So then I swapped back the the ecm I pulled out as the car srarted and kinda ran before I swapped ecm and not this one won't crank either. I guess if their both bad maybe this is the cause but I can't find any help on the web so I thought I'd ask the community I also did the 15 min off bat and 10 min in on pos and nothing with either ecm. Any ideas or help that's everyone

Being an 88, your car doesn't have VATS, no resistor pellet in the key. Wiring for start circuit goes from ignition switch to P/N switch (or clutch switch if manual trans) to starter solenoid (ppl wire). With key in start position you should have 12 volts at the ppl wire on the solenoid. HTH!

The ECM has nothing to do with the starter not engaging. Even if VATs was present. It is as bigal55 posted.

Comes on when I go to turn it to the on pos have power coming from the ign to the harness out the harness and out the fire wall.
Guess I'll see about jacking the ride even higher up. But I have replace so far, mass air flow 3 times, both relays for mass air, eng coolant sensor, icm, ecm and with all that is would fire up and run just not very long. Run scan and 33,36 over and over even replacing the parts over and over witting looks old but fine no cracks. Just let her sit to long I guess. I'll let ya know if I squeeze under the beast or not in a bit

You need to check the P/N safety switch (clutch switch if manual). Here is the wiring diagram.
