Pictures of the insides of a 7302 ECM

So a funny thing happened on the way to the recap .....

The ECM in my car is the original and has served the car well for the past 28 years . Being an electronic hobbyist and knowing that electrolytic capacitors are the bane of vintage electronic equipment it is quite common to replace the capacitors when they start pushing 30 or 40 years old , and my plan was to replace the bunch of electrolytic capacitors I thought were in my ECM just in case any of them were ready to go bad . I bought a replacement ECM to put in the car while I did the capacitor replacements (recap in electronic hobbyspeak) and when I opened the original ECM I was kinda surprised to not see a whole bunch of em , maybe 4 or 5 at a quick glance . I sure expected to see at least a dozen of the can types as seen in other electronic equipment but things are looking pretty barren , electrolytic capacitor wise , in there to me .

Anyway , I took good shots of the only "heat sink" mounted semiconductors in there (the ones switching the hefty power for the injectors & IAC motor come to mind) and tried to give a good peek inside it for anyone whose curious what the insides of our ECM looks like .

I don't believe that there are any electrolytic caps in these ECMs. Just tantalum and ceramic (which is a good thing).
