Attempt #2. Accell Pro Ram.
Attempt #2. Accell Pro Ram.
Ok guys, hopefully you can help me out. I posted these questions earlier in the TPI section, just to be given the stock, "I'm too good to talk to you, search the archives" response.
Too bad I have found all of three posts regarding the Pro Ram, and none answering my questions.
Here's the deal. Right now, I am running a stock TPI unit, stock cam, stock heads, on a 154k motor. My goal is to last through the season on this motor (still running strong) and break 11's. Lasting through the season probably means dropping the nitrous shot down from what I trapped 116 with last season.
Mods are as follows..
All free mods, TV pressure bumped up for trans to shift at 4900.
3.73's
Ported plenum, port matched intake
Flowmaster Catback
MSD 6 box, coil, etc
AFPR
Computech N20 kit, set up on a LARGE shot, with custom jetting to get the optimal fuel mix on this motor. On the 116 run, the shot was putting down about 150-165 at the wheels, so around 200-210 at the crank. The motor has taken it well so far, running 91 octane and a full bottle of 104+ octane booster, I get great looking plugs with no detonation, with the timing scaled back a bit. This is probably due to the altitude.
This season, I am getting a set of 10.5" et streets, LCA's, headers, and a better intake manifold.
I am looking at the miniram as one option.
The other option I am considering is using the Accell pro ram and an adaptor to run the stock style TPI throttle body.
questions.
1. Who would I buy an adaptor from? I have heard lingenfelter sells one. How much?
2. How does this manifold perform? I am looking to get the powerband moved out to around a 5500 shift point with the stock cam and 1.6RR's. My worries are that the huge plenum size with the adaptor could hurt things. Opinions?
3. Is anybody running this setup that can tell me how it works?
4. This is my first EFI car. I have never done PROM tuning in my life. I understand sirflow theory quite well, and am an accomplished carb tuner, but the last thing I want is a car that runs like crap for half the season because I can't get it tuned. How hard is it to get a workable chip burned for this combo? Is it the type of thing were if I posted what I had, somebody could give me some baseline values into a chip that would allow me to get close enough to fine tune it?
One of the benefits of the Miniram, is that it comes with a TPIS chip that is supposed to work well with the miniram specs. Wether it does or not, at least it would be in the ballpark which is closer than I feel I could get myself starting with the stock chip.
My biggest fear is swapping on a Pro Ram, then when trying to get help on this board, being told to check the f'ing archives.
Thanks for any help you can provide, I really appreciate it!

Why dont you call lingenfelter and ask them how much the elbow costs?
www.lingefelter.com
I have the same intake manifold however I have not had the car running yet to be able to tell you how I like it.
If your wanting to buy the mini ram just because it comes wiht a prom, thats the wrong idea. Its an extra $500 for the PROM. There are many places (people?) that will do one much cheaper and do a better job.
If you look up on mrgasket.com and go to the Accell DFI section get the part number for the elbow. Call Jegs, and ask them to check the price on one of those. They will be cheaper than lingenfelter.
I bought an adapter from Precsion Turbo to bolt a mustang style TB to mine. I dont know how Im going to hook the linkage up to it but that doesnt bother me at all.
I spent $400 on the intake and fuel rails. MUCH cheaper than a mini ram.
I also dont burn my own proms. I purchased a Speed Pro management system to control my EFI. It wasnt cheap but it is simple and effective.
Good luck.

THANK YOU for the info.
Yeah, $400 is a **** of a lot cheaper than $1200. I understand that the $1200 includes a PROM burn with the TPIS unit, but still.
How do you think this intake will do on a near stock 350? With your combo, you're starting with 50 some more cubes and forced induction on top of it. Will this be too wild? I am assuming not, as I know people with carbed 350's running low rise single planes with good results...
Where did you get your pro ram? And why did you switch from the miniram?

Guydoo is right. Call Jegs or Slummit. Should hit you for about $280 if I remember correctly.

It works awesome if you have the motor for it. Fartherest I've wound my 406 is 6200 and that limit was cuz of pulley setup I have on my blower. At 6200 I'm at the max rpm for my Vortech.
3. Is anybody running this setup that can tell me how it works?

You need an aftermarket ECU with this intake. Chip burning...well, we won't go there.

That was a BS response, but not many have made the swap so helpers will be few and far between. I did it a year ago.
