ATTN Craig, Question about ALDL interface
ATTN Craig, Question about ALDL interface
I am somewhat new to the electronic fabrication world, so if my questions sound too basic, I apologize ahead of time. I have already downloaded ECM, and Im trying to study all its parts as we speak on my laptop. Now, when it comes to the cable fab, Im lost, but Im also broke, so I really cant afford a prefabbed unit. The car is an 86 IROC with the 165 ECM. I have read the schematic for the MAX232 at a webpage linked to yours(cant remember the name) But I see your updated version which you posted in reply to another members question, includes more parts. Now, do I use the schematic I originally downloaded, or the latest post, or another one altogether. Another equally novice question is when I went to radio shack, I noticed a max232 kit with a split shell and another style connector with shield, which would I use? My Laptop has both a 9 pin and the larger connection, so Im fine there. I really appreciate any input you can offer, and let me just say thank you for offering your software/advice so freely. I was very excited when I realized the costly investment(Laptop) was already handled.

Since you're just going to use the interface for TPI application, and as you said you're kinda novice with electronics, I'd suggest you try the 2-transistor interface. It's much simpler, and folks say it works. You should see a link to the pic on my page:

That's just a one-off suggestion. I think any of the schematics will work if they're interpreted correctly.
If you want, Steve Ruse might be able to supply you with the printed circuit board and some parts, just ask him on that issue, might not be very much money.
