Any excel wizards out there?

I'm trying to do a 3D graph in Excel 97, but I'm having trouble.

Basically what I want to do is graph RPM as the X, LV8 as the Y, and BLM and the Z. I can't figure out where to tell excel which column to use for which axis. It's trying to graph each column as a different series, which is totally wrong.

The "surface" graph option in Excel has a lot to be desired. There are a few problems with what you are trying to graph using those as the axes.

Are you trying to find the BLMs that correspond with a certain RPM and LV8 value? If so, I can easily help you out with a macro on that one.

Let me know what end result you are looking for and I should be able to hook you up.

I'm looking for 128/128...

At work I have SigmaPlot, apparently that should be able to do what I want, so I'm going to try that first. I may take you up on your offer though, if I can't get it to work this weekend.

My wifes boss is supposed to be an excell wiz, so I'm gonna have him try to help me with some stuff, 1 of which is the graph you mentioned. If he can figure something out, I'll let you know.

Yes, Excel has a bit to be desired. I use it all the time at work.

SigmaPlot is real nice, you can do all kinds of 3d stuff with that much more effectively.

Actually, though, if you're looking to do a 3D plot, usually the information can be rendered pretty well in a 2D barchart or something.

One thing I've found helpful sometimes is the 'Bubble' plot. You could plot RPM on the X-axis, LV on the yaxis, and then the value of BLM will be the size of the bubble/circle of the datapoint. This is kinda informative for this type of analysis.

Another way, though, is to reduce your dataset by grouping it and doing some averaging. Look into the 'histogram' function and such.

FWIW...
