2732 to 29C256 My first report
I received Craigs 2732 to 256 kit as a complete setup ready to install. It came with all parts necessary even a hot glue gun to hold down the adapter.
The adapter went in very snuggly and the only need for the glue was to keep from knocking it out. It sits above the box by a fair amount and possably could be knocked loose without the glue.
I had trouble at first trying to program the 29c256 chip, my pocket programmer Ver 1.35 kep saying device not programmed and had a range of locations in the H7000 range that were failing to verify. on the third try, I wiggled the chip around a bit in the Pocket Programmer and relocked it down and all worked fine.
The memory locations are only a little confusing. But if you use Craigs bat file to create your BIN it works well and bina5 is switch 5. ( I only verified 5 & 0 the rest should be ok, I will check later)
I was able to put a single or two bins on the chip by using a blank dummy bin with 00s to pad the areas I was not using. this worked well. once you have 8 bins this should not be necessary, just replace the ones you are working with.
I found Grumpys comment on adding AA at the 0004, 1004, 2004, etc usefull as I forgot to do it once and got the flashing light at the SES light.
I need more time to check thgis thing out, BUT, It works great, better than great acctually! Two thumbs up.
I may work on a windows versiion of Craigs bat program to pick and choose files easier when I have a free momet

And you can switch programs while the engine is running. I would suggest doing that on the sholdier of the road, just in car it does sneeze, so far mine hasn't in the 747.

I have some trouble too with AT29c256 flash chips. Using an old laptop that can only run the DOS version of pocket programmer I have been having some trouble reprogramming them. When I break down and unplug the printer from my desktop and use the windows version it works fine, verifies and reprograms. Maybe I can use the windows software to fill the chip with f's and then the laptop will program them at the track.

If you're using Tunercat, download the demo of the tdf file editor and open the tdf file. Go to Edit, Ecm data in the pull down menu. In the upper right hand corner, do what I did;

Don't worry, the 256 switcher is coming. Might be a few weeks, but if this 2732 switcher works without a hitch, I might simplify the design of the big boy.
I need you guys to try something. Build an extension cable several feet long to extend the 6-pin DIP switch, and see if it still works good. If so, we're in business. You should be able to get a pair of 6-pin sockets at Radio Shack and solder up 6 leads of a ribbon cable length.
I want to see if R/F interference is a problem for the address lines. I think it will not be because of the way the lines are switched via pulldown resistors, but need to see how it does in a working car for on-the-fly changes. Just be careful and tape it up or something, I don't want you to short out your ECM, although all the leads should be fail-safe if grounded out. Still...
Let me know what happens...

Use a jewelers screwdriver to pry it out?.

Bruce,
I can't remember which one I sent you. Some of them will pull out rather freely, others might be soldered in. Just make sure which you ave before you go in with a pry-bar. I think you should have one with double-stacked sockets along with the switch itself. Should make it a breeze.
