Need advice

I'm planning to get into PROM burning caurse my car need major tuning.

1. Should I switch to SD before I begin to make my own PROM's?

2. I was planning to burn my own PROM without the Procharger and then when I get it right let the FMU control the fuel under boost.

But the big Quest. is stay with my Wells maf or change to SD?

Any other comments on my mods.?

In my opinion the MAF was much easier for me to tune, but on the other hand w/your combo You are probably maxing out the MAF
which is still ok.
I learned basics on MAF then switched.
SD you can get a much more exact tune but have to work for it,
Upon swithching to SD, I gained about a tenth and 1 mph probably from the restiction loss.
But if you plan to switch to SD you should probably go with the
cyl/typ ecm,you could still use the FMU at first until you are ready to tackle boost tuning.

well you could use a maf translator and then read over the article up in the stickys the definitive $32b tunning article. this will get you started. the whole idea of the maf translator is to give you a courser maf reading but it will give you the scale you need. have a look if you need more help let me know.

Thanks.....

But I've think I've missed something- MAF translator is there a such thing now? It have been discussed here several times but is there one thats working now? more info please!

Ok, so if I switch to SD I should go with the /typ ecm right, why not use a ecm from a 90 TA?

I think it would be easier to upgrade to the -90 ecm and then use the FMU unit...................

Well it would, be but the reason I said that is if you are doing the switch then go with the cyl/tyh ECM is because you have the option to use a 2 bar map sensor wich would allow you to tune for boost as opposed to useing the FMU.
I understand you may not be ready for that now so you would use the FMU with it,But after you get some tuning under your belt and want to maximize power the you could start using the ECM to add fuel rather than the FMU.

Ready for it? Hell I'm not sure Im ready for any PROM Burning but my car needs it...............So what choice do I have

If I keep my MAF system on and just do my own PROMs for a start, how will that affect my tuning work? Lets say I MAx out my maf a7 3500 rpm then what?

Well being that you are using a fairly small cam like the zz9 I dont think you will max out very early.
But if you do then you just make up the fuel with Power enrichment fual to air adder.

Buy the equipment NOW and start learning on your 165. The last thing you want to do is to make too many changes at once. Learn to program your own PROMs with the 165 until you are confident about what you are doing. Then you'll want to convert over to the SyTy (749) ECM and tune with that ECM since it actually recognizes boost. Get rid of that FMU and just use big injectors with an ECM that can recognize boost.

well there a qaundry. you could actually use the 165 for boost. hows that idea for you ??? with a maf translator and a big enough housing to drive down maf voltage if could very easily be done. there plenty of room in the spark table to. just more random thoughts. might have to try this idea. any takers ?
