Ok what else do i need

Alright i bought a the pocket programmer last night . I went to buy the chips at the JDR website and became totally confused . O then went to get the eraser , but the site didn't have the $$ or the item in stock . I also went to tunercat , whicjh i thought was free , but they wanted $70.00 for the software .
If someone could give me a little guidence , that would most helpful . Also is there anything esle i will need to buy . cables , things to hook the chip up to the ecm , etc....

As per my article (with deletions to make it shorter) ....

"What you need...
You need a computer.
You need a piece of equipment that can read and program PROMs.
You will need ANOTHER special program to read this BIN and allow you to modify it.
ALL of these editors have special calibration files (also known as definition files) that you load into the program before opening your BIN.
Spare EPROMs.
If you are using EPROMs (and not EEPROMs - see the important note below) you will need an EPROM eraser .
IMPORTANT NOTE: The 'rage' among us chip programmers is the use of flash proms. EEPROMs make our lives much easier in that a UV Eraser becomes obsolete.
That's it! That's all you need."

"If saving money is your most important consideration then choose WinBin. It is 100% Free of charge. If you are willing to spend money in order to receive more 'bells and whistles' and more support then choose either GMEPro or TunerCat."

Read the full article and it will tell you everything you need. It also shows adapters, etc.

Check the sticky post in this forum....

And read the articles on what you need.

- Burner
- Software to read and edit the chip
- Eraser IF using old stlye chips, or you can get EEPROMs which you can write over and over...like CDR's compared to CDRW's
- Diagnostic software
- Cheap laptop to run the software above as well
- Cable that goes from the ALDL plug in the car to the laptop, this acts just like a much more expensive scanner and it's easier to read IMHO

Tunercat costs $70 ( includes great support from everything I see / hear ) and another $20 for the definition file to read / modify the data on the particular chip / bin image you're working with.

Do a search for Craig Moates, then spend $50 on a ZIF adapter that includes some chip, this makes it VERY easy to swap out the prom each time you burn a new one.

I'm NO expert, but this is the route I will take, and it's the route MANY others have taken, and it seems to let you get started much easier than other ways. Plus you get to use the knowledge of people who have tuned this way with much success.

I have read the articale . But when i went to the site to buy chips i was totally lost . Also when i went to the site you listed for the eraser it didn't show a price , or show to have any in stock . Also i read something about hpertech adapter . If i have a hypertech chip does it have the adapter on it? I have read alot of the info out there , it just dosn't make sence yet . I am the type of person that has to see it done or do it hands on for me to fully understand . So i might asking alot of stupid question in your eyes , and i will probably already read about it, but not fully understand .
