I think this might be a silly question, but I just want to be sure that the Prom ID word isn't used for anything other than identifying a chip.
If not, then I can use it for my own internal tracking of chip versions, right?

RBob.
yeah its a nice thing to have for sure. im on version 140 or so in my car and version 85 on my frineds mpfi v6 s-10. then there sevral other cars with version ranginf from 1-500. its a great way to keep track of things.
good idea is to create a note package the evolves with the binary. put each cnage made in each version # in your note. this way its easy to follow the progression youce made. with my own vehciles om sort of lazy abotu note keeping but on not my vehicles im extremly fastidious.

In fact, I'm thinking of implementing something to the effect of a "bin notes" feature in GMECM Edit that works off of the Prom ID. However, this would infer that the user would actually use the Prom ID to version their chips.
I don't know. just toying with how to make a good "notes" system in GMECM Edit without having to create a whole new file format that encapselates the chip, ECU and notes.
