need advice

Hey guys, I have absolutly NO idea about proms so I figured I would get the opinions of guys that deal with this stuff.. Its for my fathers car, its a 85 Monte SS L-69.. We yanked the motor and refreshed it.. (new gaskets, paint, clean, all that except a rebuild).. then bought a kit from summit to use on the 700-R-4 that we put in it so the tourque converter is now locks when the tranny gets into overdrive. (bypasses computer) My dad thinks something is wrong with the computer and that its not retarding the timing like it should because under a load it spark knocks.. Now personaly I would think buying a chip off the shelf would only result in a little more advance in the timing curve which would only make the spark knock worse.. He wants to retain the computer controlled quadrajet so what I need to know is what can we do to get the car away from the spark knocking.. I told him to retard the timing a little bit but he says that its already retarded.. I dont know.. its not my car.. But i was hoping you guys could relay some information to me so that I can give it to him .. get this crap fixed before he drives me nuts.. otherwise he is callin summit and ordering a chip.. (mistake IMO)!!!
P.S. he uses only 92 octane in it so that isnt the problem
Thanks
Scott Rooper

The best combination that I found for the CCC saw to get the ZZZ instruction manual, and use the ecm, chip, and ESC they recommend.

Then get a copy of Doug Roe's Quadrajet tuning book, and memorize that for getting the carb right.

What ever you do watch that you keep those secondary metering rods that the L69 has, they are close enough to use in lieu of the AH, or ANs the manual recommends.

clearify

Ok.. I have no idea what the first paragraph is about.. I dont know what a CCC or ZZZ is.. I do however understand the part on making sure that the carborator is perfectly tuned.. and use the correct metering rods.. the way it looks is that you would like me to use the factory rods.. if so then the carb is at stock form. i dont know however if roy has tuned it or not.. i will make sure that he gets the carb in good tune.. i know he has a quadrajet book so hopefully that will give us the correct information..
any other advice is apreciated.. i just cant get him away from the computer idea.. i know there is nothing wrong with the computer because there are no trouble codes.. but he thinks the computer isnt doing its job.. blah blah.. i dont know about computers but i do know he is old school and knows alot less than me..
oh well

thanks

CCC Computer Controlled Carb.

GM had an kit for installing the ZZZ engine in a 3rd Gen F Body that was smog legal. In the manual were all the trick part no.s for the misc bits to make it fit.

oh ok

aight man.. I got it now.. thanks for the clearification.. but we will adjust the carb to specs and see if that helps.. i just dont want him spendin that money when we both know an over the counter chip isnt going to help his problem.. it will probably only make it worse with more advance.. anyway.. thats a starting point for me if it hasnt been done so far.. thanks again
