Which ALDL cable

So I'm looking at the aldl cables and see that there are a few different wiring set ups, some a fair bit more complicated than others. Now What's the difference? do the more complicated ones have add functionality or work with a wider range of vehicles, or is it just unneeded pain in the butt?

Is there one cable design that will work between the different vehicles? I'm curious because I have 5 different vehicles, but my current cable (DIY one from the winaldl site) only works on the firebird. Do I have to build different cables (if so I'll probably come up with a switched design that covers as many options as possible) or is there one pretty much universal one already?
Thanks
John
