need help

89 Trans Am with 165 ecm. I have been trying for weeks to burn my first prom and am having no luck. I started with a stock bin put onto an at29c256 with the the pocket programmer. I set device start adress to 4, 000. I am using a moates adapter. The fan runs whenever the ignition is on. I have tried a new adapter, new chips, stacking the bin, and changing the fan request. As far as I can tell the adapter and memcal are put together corectly. The at29c256 had the notch facing the outer edge of the adapter, the adapter will only go into the ecm one way, and the memcal is on the adapter with the old prom to the left. I am at my wits end! and help would be great. Thanks John

If there is something running in the background using the HDD, then PP will puke when programming a chip. Norton is real bad about that. Try using Control ALt Delete and exiting all the programs you can, and retry.

Another thought is programming the memcal, and then try reading it. Then compare the two files and see if there are any answers.

It's easier to see what you're doing this time, but still not enough to understand what is going wrong.

How are you changing the fan speed- ie, what editor are you using and which ECU or TDF and which bin?

Thanks for the help. I got is solved it ended up being a bad adapter from craig moates and something else. What else I'm not sure. Craig moates was great, he sent many e mails and sent me a new adapter for free. Great guy to deal with. -John
