Best Location for DIY WB sensor?
Yea I know this isn't quite PROM related, but since lots of folks here running a WB, thought I would ask here. I just got my Hooker Super Comp headers #2055, so before they go in I want to put another bung hole for the WB.
The drivers header has the stock O2 hole 180deg opposite from where the manifold has it. I think this because of clearance issues. I was considering this same area for #2, just down an inch or so on the Ypipe. Got to think this one thru, clearance is the #1 issue here.
The pass side looks even worse. Hard to really tell without sizing up the parts first.
TIA!

Just as a reminder, be sure to install it angled down (sensor tip down) at least 10 degrees. There is a LOT of water in exhaust, and when it all condenses on shut down, you don't want it pooling in your expensive WB. Also, make sure you place it in the collector, and not in one of the individual primaries.
Hope you can mount it in a way that it'll last.

Mine's about 5' downstream from the ports. And I have about 10K miles on it.
Too far away and you'll have some lag when your data logging. At 5' mines close enough for gummit work.

Thanks for the tips. I started drilling a hole in the Y pipe about 2" down from the flange. I am going to grind away some of the 18mm nut so the the sensor is angled down. This location should be clear enough for the sensor.
I figured the sensor was heated, so it doesn't have to be real close to the heads. 5' Grumpy, that must be near the end of the Ypipe in front of the converter?

One other question, just out of curiosity, With a turbo where do you mount it, before or after the turbo? I would say before, but I don't have hardly any experience with turbo's.

They are slightly backpressure sensitive, and in some turbo appls, you can have EGTs at 1,900dF which is higher then the sensor element's working temp..
