$8D Datamaster

A friend of mine has a 1987 Pontiac wagon with a 2.8L. I looked up his ECM at tunercat.com and it says he has a '730. I thought that was strange, considering he has a MAF. A little research later and I came up with this:
http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/p4xref.html#16198262

www.acdelco.com also states that he has a 8262 BUT it says "Labled as 1227730" which I found VERY interesting.

My actual question is, will 8D Datamaster work with this 87 Pontiac 2.8L?

I think the only other option is Diacom.

It looks like $46 is the correct mask for that application.

The 1227730 was used in many applications, as you probably saw on Ludis' cross reference page. Now for the catch to this, and I don't know if it matters or not, but many of these were converted to speed density. They already had the MAP sensor in place, all they had to do is swap in a new PROM. I'm pretty sure it's a different mask ID. The conversion was a GM autorized deal, and it was done in pace of a MAF replacement. The MAF remained in place because it has the IAT inside it. At the shop I use an OTC scan tool, and it always asks if the SD conversion has been done, that's why I think it is a different mask.

You know it's funny you mentioned that. I read that these early MAF sensors were essentially junk and a lot of cars (all of them?) were upgraded to a new EPROM. My XP240 did ask "Speed Density?" and on the driver's side strut tower, sure enough, there was a sticker proclaiming that this car had the updated, MAF-less EPROM.

And BTW, neither Datamaster nor the Moates scanner worked...Diacom probably would but I didn't build the adapter properly.
