newbie questions

im am putting tpi from a 88 camaro into my 73 chevy truck with a built 400. i was wondering if i can use a wiring harness that has the four wire hook up like the ones from painless or chevy thunder.com and if it would still work for tuning. also do i have to change anything to go from the maf to sd i already got the 730 ecm and all the sd senors do i have to change the prom in any way. what all do i have to change on the prom just to get it to run so i can start tuning. i know injectors and an vats and maybe smog stuff but im not sure how to do that can anyone explain. where can i get a cold start injector block off? can some one explain what the ve thing is all about?
thanks for you help!

I have an '88 engine and an 87 car that I switched to SD.

I don't see why that harness wouldn't work for a 7730. Just make sure you get the harness for the speed density set-up. Someone else should be able to verify this.

All the sensors from the 88 or the SD set-up will work except the knock sensor from the 88. You'll want to use the SD KS. And of course you know that the MAP replaces the MAF.

In addition to changes you already listed for the Prom, you'll also have to change the engine size in the chip. If you have a hefty cam you might want to raise the idle speed right away also.

Ditto the cold start block off kit. I'm looking for one myself since mine leaks and an O-rings cost $128 because you have to buy the friggin kit. Right now I'm planning to tap a 1/16" pipe thread into the steel plug that goes into the fuel rail. I've bought some 1/16" plugs and tap already. Just have to make a plate for the valve.

Mike Davis has a good site for doing a swap to SD.

Download this software, open an AUJP bin, use a 8d ECU file. Look through some of the "constants" and you'll find the one for the engine size. There is a table for the idle speed vs. coolant temp.

Cylinder displacement refers to the displacement per cylinder, not total. 350/8=43 cubic inches or 5700/8=712 cc
