Knock retard and knock sensor tables...
I get some knock retard in PE but I get it mostly when I shift (T-56).
If and when I finally get the tune as perfect as I can get it (afr's and timing correct), and if I still get knock retard when I shift, would be ok to limit knock sensor to only be able to pull 2* max timing out under any situation. Or, just disable it completely? What all knock tables in Tunercat should I modify or should I leave it alone?
I have hooker longtubes and they are VERY close to the frame or inner fender wells. Could the headers bumping the sidewalls (under a hard shift) cause the knock sensor to pull timing out?
If the tune is perfect, is there really any need for the knock sensor?
Carb'd motor's dont use one, so what would the ill effects of disabling it be on a TPI motor?

i have same issue. KC. i took 2 deg out of my tables where it occurred and it went away temporaily . i am not certain if the timing retard did the trick or maybe was a little lean as that i worked on as well. It came back at 40 map 2200 rpms(same area) last week? . A loose knock sensor could be an issue but i doubt it. or defective or "old" KS as well. I have real dual exhaust and loud. but that is rear of car but pipes may rattlein tunnel at transmission crossmember. I am considering disable of KS and try to be observant of the detonation if any. if car seems to not detonate then i will leave KS disabled. I think it is good to have enabled if your fuel quality is compromised or the octane you run is 87. i run 93 only so maybe i can take a chance.

What do you heavy hitters think?
(Trax, Grumpy, and the several others that all know 10 times more than I about this stuff)
Thoughts?

It's your call.
Long term you might want to use it once in a while to make sure your tune is perfect.
It can be useful for the ocassional errant tank of bad gas.
Sometimes a Knock Sensor can pick up knock at levels that aren't audible.
Then again sometimes you can see detonation on the plugs that sometimes the sensor misses.

Uhhh...this may sound a bit off...but it is kinda applicable to the post subject...
I put the knock sensor in a block drain port on my AMC 360 block. Is it possible that the knock sensor may try to pull timing if the water pump starts to cavitate or if the coolant starts to show nucleate boiling near the walls of the coolant jackets? Would the knock sensor pick up sounds/vibrations like those and interpret them as knock?
This could throw a kink in my plans...
