Idle speed (8746, $61, ANLU)
Well, once I got the smoke out of the exhaust, I realized that my idle speed is a little high. It's livable at 900rpm, but not where I wanted it or where I programmed it (750rpm in the BIN).
What gives? Do I need to redo the IAC reset and TPS set? Something ain't right here 'cause this engine should run pretty well at idle.
I tried taking IAC steps in Park out...took it down to 109 at idle. That didn't work...it actually brought back some of the smoke...so I put it back to original. Where would I find the COLD START (or CHOKE) engine speed?

This post covers your question in detail:

The only thing that looks to be missing is the park/neutral switch position. ECM needs to see this in the drive position (open input wire) before closed loop idle control is used.

Thank you Rbob! this brings up another important question...what exactly constitutes a HOT engine? Does this mean normal operating temp or overheat? If it means normal temp (185dF) then I have this setting all screwed up because I assumed it meant OVERHEAT and put it to 900rpm. Sounds like I better fix that one. But how? I played with it last night and I couldn't get it to go past something like 3145rpm. Could I just put 255 ($FF) in that cell using the hex editor and leave it at that?
So the IAC=POS. Could I just disconnect it and idle off the blades or would that **** off the ECM?
It also looks like I better get that Park/Neutral switch hooked up the right way. I have a brand new Hurst shifter that has a P/N switch in it. I'll use that one since the one on my tranny is shot.
Thanks again.

The prk/neut input is nice to have but not that important. On stick cars the input is left floating which the ECM sees as being 'in drive' all of the time.

I don't remember the exact location. The ECU item was "Max Engine Speed (Hot)". I'll get the location when I get home tonight.
I think I need to go back and check that IAC setting one more time. I may have left it at 109, but I am not sure. I'll just leave the thing alone until I know more about it.
Thanks...
