I built my own. First step (and most important) is to get the data sheet for the device you wish to program. The data sheet will have the programming specifications. Some manufacturers also have separate additional programming information.

Then do a web search for DIY burners/programmers. These will give an idea of how to implement the hardware and software.

RBob.

I built my own too. The difference between my attempt and RBob's is that he knew what he was doing at the time. Mine now works fine, and the effort was good for me. I once rode a pushbike 1100 km, it didn't make my head hurt, but I'm not going to make that effort again. Building a programmer did make my head hurt, and I'm definitely not doing that again, either. PP2's are cheap.

Go to Glenn Pure's site and click on the Electronics link to find all the info you need, including software. There are kits available for this. Mine cost about $USD 100.

Hi

This is a link to a site I found for a programmer. It supports most roms used in GM ecu's, and is fairly easy to build.

http://home.quicknet.com.au/andrewm/eprom1/index.html

I found a minor bug...it needs +12-14v to run not +9v - the programming voltage won't be high enough otherwise.

The software is DOS, but works nicely.

Is that the one you built Sean?

John

PS,
Got the paint onto the Stato yet?

Here's the most bang for the buck:

It's what I use and it works flawlessly. You can't beat the price either so why build one unless you just want the experience?

Of course, this is the ultimate solution:

Certainly is. Works well...

The poor Stato needed the rear qtrs reprimed- the weather got under it and bubbled.

But on track for next week end. Yay! Shame the humidity is >80%

I like to build most of my tools- it helps me understand the interactions between things.

Not looking good- I might delay until after the wet season.
