Programmer Question
First off, i am new to programming eproms and i am seeking some help from you guys because i am stuck. Here is the current equipmnet i am trying to use to tune my car. E.A.S.E. diagnostic scan software with a laptop, Pocket programmer 2, and Tuner Cat. I have a baseline eprom already and i am trying to read the prom with the programmer. Problem: I cant seem to get the programmer to see what is on the eprom and save it so i make changes to it in Tuner Cat. When i save it from the programmer it says it's saving a .bin file. Which i think is what i need to do. But when i try to look at it Tuner Cat there are no values in any of the tables. I should see some values, shouldnt i? Can someone give some detailed instruction on how to save my current chip info to a .bin so i can make changes to it in Tuner Cat? Thanks

First you want to Move Devise, then Save Buffer.
Once you hit Move Devise, you mgiht try hitting, Edit Buffer, and then you should see the .bin you want to save.

Once i do this am i going to see values in the Tuner Cat tables? I do remember moving the device and that did work, becsause it had said the device had been moved to buffer and i do remember saving the buffer. It didnt work if recall. But i will try it again.
I have a 7730 coverted to a 7749 ecm because of my super charger.
I do have the $58 definition file in tuner cat.
Is this going to be a problem?

The $58 definition is for use with a syclone/typhoon binary file, which means you should be pulling that file from a syclone or typhoon prom. If not, the tables/constants will not line up and the fields in tunercat will be erroneous. If you are reading a prom from a '730 ecm, you will need to use the correct definition file to read that image. You may also need to check your start and end address for the prom image. If you already know this stuff, just ignore me, hahhah.

Again, am i supposed to see values in tuner cat? Or are there suppossed to be a 0's?
Is what you said going to apply to a ecm that has been converted to act like 7749? I was told that i needed the defintion file for $58 MASK. I also have $8d defintion file. The guy i got my starter eprom form has his converted to 7749 from a 165. This programming has been nothing but a major PITA.

yes, you should see values in the tables, etc. you will have to find out if the prom for sure has $58 code or $8D code in it. Either will run, but whichever code you have must match the definition file. You can find alot of BINs on craig moates site or tunerpro, or diy-efi, grab something off of one of those sites, to just play around, try a $42, which is the default def that comes with tunercat, then try a $8D or $58. Get the hang of manipulating the bin files, then work on getting an image off the prom. Hang in there, its not so bad once you get some success with all these steps.
another thing you can do is post the .bin, rename as a .bmp, and someone can open it and see if data is really there.
hope that helps......

I tried again last night to save the bin from the programmer and still no luck.
Here is a run down of what i tried and the results.
Moved device to buffer, clicked edit buffer and some info came up by didnt change anything because i didnt have a clue on what to change if anything. Saved buffer, then opened up tuner cat, tried opening bin with the 58 def file but i am getting an of either the file is corrupt or i am using the wrong def file. So i tried opeining the bin with 8d file. It opened but i cant go into the constants. It gives me a error message of either corrupt file or wrong def file. Now it will let me open the tables but there are no values in any of the tables. So i am not sure what's going on thier.
I tried saving the info from the programmer in a hex format and when i finshed saving it hex format the programmer actually said that it had saved it. Unlike when i tried in a .bin format. I dont know if it supposed to tell me it daved some thing or not.
Again, my bin is from someone that has done the ecm conversion to a 7749 also and he uses it in his car, wich is very similar to mine.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
